Passport Photo Size for Pakistan: 35 x 45 mm, White Background

Applying for or renewing a Pakistani passport? The photo is the part that most often delays an application. This page gives the size, pixels, background colour and practical tips for a Pakistan passport photo, and shows how to make one free in under a minute.

Pakistan passport photo size at a glance

The commonly published size for a Pakistan passport photo is 35 x 45 mm (3.5 x 4.5 cm) with a plain white background. At 300 DPI this equals about 413 x 531 pixels, which is the size most online forms ask for.

Rules can change, so confirm with the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports or your nearest Pakistani embassy or consulate before you print or upload. Our passport photo size guide compares Pakistan with other countries.

Background colour: passport versus CNIC and NICOP

The passport photo uses a white background. National ID photos are different: the CNIC and NICOP use a light blue background. This is a common mistake, because people reuse one photo for both documents.

If you need both, make two files. In Uphoto you can keep the same original photo and use the background picker to export one white and one light blue version. Read our background colour rules for more.

Head position and expression

Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression, mouth closed and both eyes open. Keep your head level and your shoulders square. The whole face, from the chin to the top of the forehead, must be visible, and hair should not cover the eyes.

Glasses, caps and heavy shadows can cause rejection. If you wear a religious head covering, the face must still be fully visible, as explained in our guide to glasses and head coverings.

How to take the photo at home

Stand about 60 cm from a plain light wall and face a window in daylight. Ask a helper to hold the phone at eye level from about 1.2 to 1.5 metres away, or use the timer. Take at least ten shots and choose the sharpest, most neutral one. The full steps are in how to take a passport photo at home.

Do not use filters or beauty mode. Keep the original file from the camera and avoid photos sent through chat apps, which are compressed and lose detail.

Make your Pakistan passport photo free

Open the Uphoto home page. Pakistan is already selected by default, so upload your photo, keep your face inside the oval guide, and check the white background in the preview. Then download a JPG for online upload or a PDF for printing.

For uploads, check the file size and format rules in our upload guide. For printing at home or in a shop, see printing passport photos at home and always print at actual size.

Common reasons Pakistani applications are sent back

The usual causes are a wrong size, a grey or shadowed background, a smile or tilted head, glare on glasses, an old photo and a blurry or over-edited image. Our common passport photo mistakes guide covers each one, and the renewal checklist helps you check everything before you apply.

Photos should also be recent. Many authorities ask for a photo taken within the last six months, so take a fresh one for each application.
